NEWS UPDATE

It is some years now since the motor racing life of Ronnie was first brought to attention. Over the years questions have been asked with some being put to bed however one question remains and that being Ronnies involvement with Rock & Roll and specifically with British rock legends Spinal Tap. So here hopefully are the blanks filled in.
Yes it is true that Ronnie Pudding rock drummer and formula 1 driver are one and the same. A similar situation to the drummer with Abba.
So a couple of years before the short lived driving career, Ronnie was a very talented drummer. His first foray was as a drum major in Gipsyville bombardiers marching band. This did not last long as he had an allergy to tall fluff coated hats. A couple of small local band projects followed but it was not until a chance meeting with Mick Ronson another Hull legend that he was to first taste stardom.
Micks band were to perform a charity event for the knife grinders benevolent fund at Chalk Lane working mens club on Anlaby Road Hull. Micks drummer took ill at the last minute with suspected under cooked patty poisoning following tea at Bob Carvers Fish Restaurant. Mick took to the stage to ask if anyone could drum as a stand in, you can guess the rest.
In the audience were Micks pals David S Hubbins and Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap. After the triumphant gig, Mick introduced Ronnie to Derek and David then informed him that their current drummer had departed the band in unusual circumstances and they needed a replacement sharpish. The reason being Spinal Tap were to headline the Saturday night at The Isle of Lucy Rock & Blues festival. The deal was done and a price of twelve pounds was agreed.
The Isle of Lucy is a small island off the Norfolk coast approximately half a mile off great Yarmouth due East. The island was a holy island inhabited by a religious order. The brothers of Saint Bruno De Bovril were a monastic order set up in 1075 by Father Bruno.
The bretheren had farmed the lush grazing land for centuries, rearing herds of cattle. It was they that invented the beverage Bovril. After a devastating bout of cattle gout, the islands cattle were no more.
In an attempt to kick start their fortunes the brothers hit upon the idea of an Isle of Wight type rock festival. And so it was, the event being sponsored ironically by Marmite. At the time it was Bovrils ferocious competitor.
The run up to the concert was a fraught one to say the least. Ronnie and Tap bassist Derek Smalls did not see eye to eye. They would often be seen discussing various topics Beef or Pork, Silk or Satin, Frosties or Ricicles etc.
The debate prior to taking the stage at the Isle of Lucy was a very heated one and made for a bad mood on stage. The two had argued over whether or not fudge packing was a job or a pastime?
This was to be Ronnie Puddings first and last time with Tap and for that matter any band. He was dismissed by Smalls after only one gig.
After two weeks convalescence at the fish docks rehabilitation home at Mablethorpe following serious anal reconstruction surgery, Ronnie returned to Hull and waited for the call to race.
As a point of interest no photo evidence exists from the rock festival as the promoter had purchased a second hand Zeppelin from a German bloke called Ernst at a pub in Cromer, this was to be the new band transport. On the way home on the Sunday night after the festival, Keith Moon of the band The Who,  got pissed and pulled the plugs out the gas bags.
The Zeppelin gently descended about 100 yards off the Yarmouth beach. All onboard escaped safely as the huge Zeppelin sunk with all the press pictures. The last image was that of Ronnie and Moon in a small dingy, Moon laughing like a banshee before accidently falling overboard.
